Surfing is no longer the preserve of the young and hip or weathered veteran. The variety of beaches and surf means there’s a wave to suit all ages and levels. Rocks, cliffs and pounding surf… fantastic. If you prefer to spectate from the security of a sunbed, however, then North Cornwall is where you’ll see some of the world’s top surfers ride the waves.
Boards and wetsuits can be hired with half- or full-day tuition for novices available. Look out too for kayak-surfing, windsurfing and kite-surfing. Head to Polzeath, Bude, Widemouth, Constantine, Harlyn and Watergate bays and get busy conquering those Atlantic rollers.
Alternatively, take out a dinghy, canoe, or sailboard on the Camel Estuary, or try your hand at parascending or water-skiing. Sheltered sailing and windsurfing can be found at the Tamar Lakes, or you can enjoy a spot of rowing on the Bude Canal.
